18-11-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Police investigators have announced that forensic pathologists require additional time to conduct the post-mortem examination of a woman’s body discovered in a freezer, as medical experts wait for the internal organs to fully thaw.
Speaking at a press conference at Brickfields police headquarters, Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood revealed that the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre’s forensic team cannot proceed with their investigation until the body, which had been frozen for an extended period, returns to an examinable state.
The case, which came to light on 12 November, involves a 53-year-old man who contacted authorities to confess he had placed his mother’s body in a freezer at his double-storey residence in Taman OUG. The suspect, who is currently in custody, is reported to have been experiencing both financial difficulties and chronic health issues.
“The suspect’s initial remand period expires tomorrow, but we anticipate requesting an extension,” AC Ku Mashariman stated. “Medical professionals need to complete their evaluation of the suspect, including his mental state. He is still recovering from an undisclosed illness.”
The investigation has progressed with five individuals providing statements to the police. Authorities have identified a personal dispute as the primary motive for the alleged murder, which is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
“We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into this matter,” the Assistant Commissioner emphasised, highlighting the complex nature of the case.
