3-4-2024 (JAKARTA) The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) successfully thwarted a major drug trafficking operation as they intercepted a shipment of 200 kilograms of marijuana from Aceh to Java. Two suspects were apprehended in connection with the crime.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Inspector General I Wayan Sugiri, the deputy for eradication at BNN, revealed that the agency received a tip about the planned delivery of marijuana from Aceh to Java. Acting swiftly on the information, BNN investigators conducted a search in the Indrapuri area of Aceh Besar on March 2, 2024.
The search operation led to the interception of one suspect, identified as MR, who was tasked with transporting the marijuana. As the authorities closed in on him, MR attempted to evade capture by discarding several sacks of marijuana along the road and fleeing into the forest.
However, MR’s escape was short-lived as he was soon arrested at his residence. The authorities then retraced his steps and recovered six sacks of dried marijuana weighing a total of 132 kilograms from the dump site.
Further investigations led the BNN team to another location in the Indrapuri area, where MR had stored the remaining marijuana. Additional kilograms of the illicit substance were confiscated, bringing the total seizure to 200 kilograms.
During questioning, MR disclosed that he had obtained the marijuana from a 4-hectare field in Lamteuba, Aceh. The field was subsequently discovered, and an additional 7 tons of wet marijuana were found and destroyed on March 7.
MR also revealed that he had been instructed by an incarcerated individual, identified as RF, to transport the marijuana to Java. As a result, RF was detained at Rajabasa prison in Lampung.
The investigation into the marijuana distribution syndicate is ongoing, with the BNN diligently working to determine the involvement of other parties.
Both MR and RF have been charged under the provisions of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, specifically Article 114, Paragraph 2 in conjunction with 132 Paragraph 1 Subsidiary Article 111 Paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 132 Paragraph 1. If convicted, they could face the death penalty or life imprisonment. The BNN remains committed to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of the public.
