9-9-2024 (SEOUL) Jennie, a prominent member of the K-pop sensation Blackpink, has signed a solo artist deal with the prestigious American label Columbia Records. The announcement, made on Monday by Jennie’s agency OA (Odd Atelier), has sent waves of excitement through the music industry and fandoms alike.
The 28-year-old South Korean star is slated to release a solo single in October, marking her first solo venture since her October 2023 hit “You & Me”. This new partnership with Columbia Records, home to music industry titans such as Beyoncé, Harry Styles, and Adele, signals a significant step in Jennie’s career and potentially opens doors for greater Western market penetration.
Jennie’s foray into solo projects is not limited to music. The multi-talented artist has already made her mark in the acting world, having appeared in the controversial HBO series “The Idol” alongside The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp last year.
This latest development comes amidst a flurry of individual pursuits from all Blackpink members. Jisoo is set to star in the upcoming zombie K-drama “Newtopia”, while Lisa recently collaborated with Spanish singer Rosalía on the single “New Woman” and is preparing for her acting debut in the third season of HBO’s critically acclaimed series “The White Lotus”. Rose, not to be left behind, has signed a management deal with The Black Label, a company owned by Blackpink’s producer Teddy Park, and has hinted at new music in the pipeline.
Despite these individual endeavours, Lisa has reassured fans that Blackpink’s future as a group remains secure. In a recent interview with Elle US, she emphatically stated, “Of course, we’re continuing, for sure. We’re so proud of Blackpink, and I love Blackpink. It is not just because of our fans, it’s for ourselves. There was no doubt. This is our life.”
