18-6-2023 (MELBOURNE) K-pop sensation Blackpink’s member Jennie has come under fire for allegedly disrespecting fans after she abruptly departed the stage during the group’s concert in Melbourne on June 11.
According to reports, Jennie left midway through their second track, the hit song “Lovesick Girls,” on the second night of their Born Pink World Tour stop in the Australian city.
The remaining three members, Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa, later addressed the audience, explaining that Jennie was feeling unwell and that they would continue the show without her.
Following the concert, Blackpink’s agency, YG Entertainment, released a statement informing fans that Jennie “was unable to complete the stage due to her deteriorating condition.” The statement also mentioned that despite Jennie’s desire to continue performing, they decided to prioritize her well-being based on on-site medical advice.
Jennie took to Instagram to apologize for her sudden departure, stating, “Sorry I wasn’t able to finish the show on Sunday. I’m doing my best to recover atm (at the moment). Your understanding and support mean the world to me. Thank you to everyone who came to our Melbourne show. Love you guys.”
DISSATISFIED FANS
However, some fans are expressing skepticism and dissatisfaction with Jennie’s explanation.
Angry netizens took to Weibo and Xiaohongshu to reveal that this wasn’t the first time Jennie had left a concert prematurely. Similar incidents were reported in Hong Kong, Thailand, Copenhagen, and Canada.
They criticized Jennie’s skill in swiftly walking away, stating that if she was truly unwell, she could have informed fans beforehand or chosen not to perform. The lack of communication and departure without explanation was seen as highly disrespectful.
But it doesn’t end there.
After the show, fans spotted Jennie having dinner with Jisoo, Rose, and their entourage at a popular hotpot chain, Haidilao. This further infuriated fans.
Netizens flooded the comments section of Jennie’s Instagram posts, lashing out at her and labeling her as “lazy,” accusing her of faking her illness.
“Don’t make us buy tickets and then witness you being disinterested on stage. If you’re sick, just don’t go. You’re ruining the atmosphere. We also work hard to earn money. It’s greedy of you to take on more than you can handle. Don’t keep us waiting and shatter our expectations… It’s unprofessional. Remember, you are here because we support you,” wrote one angry (ex?) fan.
Another comment read, “You are the most selfish person I have ever known. You cause trouble and create a scene at every concert, leading to criticism of your group. How come you’re sick, but you were able to go hiking in the mountains yesterday? You can climb mountains but can’t stand on stage? If you can’t stand, you can sit and sing on a chair. Your fans spend their hard-earned money [to see you], but you always appear disinterested and lazy at every concert. You only show energy at clubs and fashion shows. If you don’t want to be an idol, at least respect the other members. I genuinely love all the members, but you disappoint me every time.”
The controversy surrounding Jennie’s departure has sparked a heated debate among fans, raising questions about professionalism, communication, and the responsibility of artists towards their loyal supporters.
