17-5-2024 (SEOUL) In a heartwarming display of philanthropic spirit, Blackpink member Jennie has donated a staggering 100 million won (US$73,600) to support a project aimed at empowering Korean youths. The donation, made in the name of Blinks, the dedicated fandom of the globally acclaimed K-pop girl group, was announced by the non-profit organization Habitat For Humanity Korea on Thursday (May 16).
A sponsorship certificate obtained by the South Korean news outlet Newsen revealed that Jennie’s generous contribution will be utilized for the construction of the Rodemnamu International Alternative School. The certificate, expressing gratitude on behalf of Habitat Korea, read: “We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Jennie and Blinks for their valuable contribution. Habitat Korea will remember the warm hearts of our sponsors for a long time.”
The Rodemnamu International Alternative School, located in the city of Anseong in South Korea’s Gyeonggi province, will serve as a residential educational facility for Koryoin teenagers – ethnic Koreans from post-Soviet states. By providing a nurturing environment and educational opportunities, the school aims to empower these young individuals and foster their personal and academic growth.
Jennie, one of the four members of the globally renowned K-pop sensation Blackpink, alongside Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa, has once again demonstrated her commitment to using her influential platform for positive change. In December 2023, the quartet renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment for group activities, solidifying their status as one of the most successful and influential girl groups in the industry.
However, the members did not renew their contracts for individual activities, paving the way for Jennie to establish her own agency, Odd Atelier, to manage her solo endeavors. Since then, Jennie has showcased her versatility by appearing on the popular variety show “Apartment 404” and lending her talents as a guest artist on Zico’s hit song “Spot!”.
