22-11-2023 (LONDON) In a glamorous state banquet held at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday (Nov 21), K-pop sensation Blackpink, comprising Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa, received commendation from King Charles during his hosting of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and First Lady Kim Keon-hee’s state visit to the UK.
Approximately 170 distinguished guests attended the glittering event in London, where King Charles and Queen Camilla honored their South Korean counterparts. Among the attendees were the globally acclaimed K-pop quartet, known for their chart-topping hits and influential presence.
In his speech, King Charles took a moment to acknowledge Blackpink’s commitment to environmental advocacy. He praised the group for their role as Ambassadors for the UK’s Presidency of COP 26 and subsequent advocacy for the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The monarch expressed admiration for how the members of Blackpink, beyond their stardom, prioritized pressing global issues. He stated, “I applaud Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rose for their role in bringing the message of environmental sustainability to a global audience.”
King Charles also reminisced about his last visit to Seoul in 1992, accompanied by his late ex-wife, Diana, Princess of Wales. In a light-hearted moment, he referenced the global phenomenon of “Gangnam Style” that originated from South Korea.
President Yoon reciprocated the warm sentiments, emphasizing the cultural ties between the two nations. He shared personal anecdotes, mentioning his and his friends’ admiration for iconic British artists like The Beatles, Queen, and Elton John. The President also highlighted the profound influence of British parliamentary democracy on modern liberal democracies worldwide.
Among the distinguished guests were Catherine, Princess of Wales, Anne, Princess Royal, and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The banquet’s culinary offerings featured a sophisticated menu, including warm egg and spinach tartlet, Windsor pheasant breast with croquette of celeriac and calvados sauce and salad, and a mango ice cream bombe for dessert.
