30-5-2023 (LONDON) A disturbing incident unfolded at the residence of actor Benedict Cumberbatch, as a court revealed that a knife-wielding intruder threatened the actor and his family. Jack Bissell, a former chef from a luxury hotel, broke into the grounds of Cumberbatch’s home in north London, making a series of alarming threats.
Bissell, 35, who has provided no explanation for his actions, confronted the movie star and ominously stated, “I know you’ve moved here – I hope it burns down.”
At the time of the intrusion, Cumberbatch, his wife Sophie Hunter, and their three children – Christopher, Hal, and Finn – were all present in the house. Bissell gained entry to the property and tore the intercom off the wall before verbally abusing the acclaimed actor. Eventually, Bissell fled the scene, but was subsequently apprehended by the police, who used DNA evidence to track him down.
Appearing in Wood Green Crown Court in London earlier this month, Bissell admitted to causing criminal damage. The former chef was fined £250 (S$362) and issued a three-year restraining order.
A source close to the family shared their harrowing experience with the Daily Mail, stating, “Naturally, all of the family were absolutely terrified and thought this guy was going to get in and hurt them. Luckily, it never went that far.”
Nevertheless, the incident has had a lasting impact on Cumberbatch and his wife, causing them “many sleepless nights.”
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Bissell had confided in a local shopkeeper about his intention to break into Cumberbatch’s house and set it on fire.
The insider further explained, “Benedict and Sophie have had many sleepless nights since worrying that they may be targeted again. The fact that it was a targeted intrusion makes it a lot more scary.”
