11-10-2023 (TOKYO) A Batik Air flight from Kansai to Taipei faced significant delays due to a substantial oil leak from its wings.
According to a report by “Yi Ping News,” a passenger on the Batik Air flight OD881, scheduled to depart at 11:35 local time, revealed that the aircraft was still grounded at Kansai Airport. The delay was caused by a massive oil leak from the wings, and airport personnel were seen urgently spreading absorbent paper on the ground. The passengers remained on board, uncertain about the nature of the issue and the expected departure time. At the time of writing, the flight had been delayed by 2.5 hours.
The flight was originally scheduled to arrive at Taoyuan Airport at 1:20 pm, but as of the time of writing, the aircraft had not yet taken off from Kansai Airport.
Passenger Miss Chen expressed her frustration, noting that there was already a leak before passengers boarded the plane. Currently, all passengers are on the plane, waiting for updates. At 2:00 am (Malaysian time), in-flight meals were distributed, but there was still no sign of takeoff. The captain informed the passengers that they might need to wait for an additional 30-40 minutes.
Batik Air was formerly known as Malindo Air and was named after the combination of “Malaysia” and “Indonesia” to symbolize the cooperation agreement between the two nations. The airline currently operates a fleet of relatively new Boeing 737-900ER, 737-800, and ATR72-600 aircraft for both domestic and international flights.
Malindo Air began operations on March 22, 2013, becoming the first airline in Malaysia to operate the new dual-class layout B737-900ER. In August of the previous year, it was rebranded as Batik Air.
