2-8-2023 (MEXICO CITY) The latest trend in the funeral industry has taken inspiration from the iconic “Barbie” franchise. Fans of the popular doll can now rest in peace in a pink-themed Barbie coffin. The trend was sparked by the release of the “Barbie” movie, which has led to a surge in demand for all things pink and Barbie-related, even causing a shortage of pink paint.
According to a report by Jam Press, funeral homes in various countries, including Mexico, El Salvador, and across Latin America, are now offering pink coffins in homage to the beloved doll. One such funeral home, Alpha and Omega Funeral Home, had actually introduced pink coffins a year prior to the Barbie movie’s release.
In a promotional video, the funeral home stated that the coffin “represents the unforgettable moments and energy experienced by those who choose to celebrate life with colour and vitality. May this tribute be a celebration filled with love, colour, and unforgettable memories.”
Isaac Villegas, a funeral director at Alpha and Omega Funeral Home, revealed that interest in the brightly coloured coffins had skyrocketed following the movie’s release. The company even offered a 30% discount to those interested in purchasing a pink coffin. Villegas stated that out of the 40 people who had inquired about the coffin, at least 10 had gone on to sign a contract, leading to the company selling out of its stock.
