22-2-2024 (LONDON) The Bank of England has announced that banknotes featuring the portrait of King Charles will be introduced into circulation in the UK starting from June 5. This comes over a year after the unveiling of their design. The new polymer banknotes will feature King Charles on the five, ten, twenty, and fifty-pound denominations, alongside the existing notes that bear the likeness of the late Queen Elizabeth.
The Bank of England clarified that the new banknotes featuring King Charles will only be printed to replace worn-out notes and to meet any increased demand for currency. This approach aligns with guidance from the Royal Household and aims to minimize the environmental and financial impact of the change. As a result, the transition to the new notes will occur gradually.

King Charles, known for his environmental advocacy, will be the second monarch to be featured on the Bank of England’s banknotes, following Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year reign. In late 2022, the UK’s Royal Mint began issuing coins featuring King Charles’ profile into general circulation.
