16-2-2024 (SINGAPORE) Pramanik Shamim, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national facing drug-related charges, found himself in further legal trouble when he, along with four compatriots, allegedly robbed a 38-year-old man on February 12. Shamim, who was previously out on bail of $10,000, is now accused of drug consumption, possession of drug-related utensils, and the recent robbery.
The initial charges against Shamim stem from allegations that he consumed methamphetamine and possessed drug-related utensils on or before May 18, 2023. Charged in court in 2023, he was released on bail.
The new incident occurred when Shamim, along with Sarker Sumon (30), Shik Md Kawsar (33), Mamun Al (33), and Ullah Ahammad (35), allegedly robbed the victim under the Merdeka Bridge underpass in Kallang between 5:30 pm and 7:45 pm on February 12.
During the incident, the group reportedly assaulted the 38-year-old victim with a bicycle chain and a wooden stick, making off with items including $60 in cash and a mobile phone valued at $800.
Following the incident, officers from Bedok Police Division successfully identified the Bangladeshi suspects, leading to their arrest on February 14. The police also recovered the stolen mobile phone during the operation.
On February 15, all five suspects, including Pramanik Shamim, were remanded at the police division. Their cases are scheduled to be heard on February 22. If convicted of robbery, the offenders could face a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years, in addition to at least 12 strokes of the cane.
