12-12-2023 (BANGKOK) Bangkok residents are being cautioned to prepare for an extended period of elevated PM2.5 pollution levels, according to an announcement by the Pollution Control Department on December 11. The department expects a reprieve in air quality on December 18, attributing the improvement to better air circulation.
Areas most severely affected by the pollution are situated in eastern Bangkok, with the western district of Thonburi also experiencing notable pollution levels. The Pollution Control Department classifies the current air quality at an “orange” level, indicating potential health impacts.
In response to the situation, the public is strongly urged to wear face masks when outdoors or engaged in activities in open areas, while also minimizing outdoor exposure wherever possible. Monitoring real-time air quality in Bangkok is facilitated through various platforms, including the AirBKK app, the website airbkk.com, Line ALERT, and Line @airbangkok.
Additionally, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration encourages the public to actively report any activities contributing to pollution in Bangkok using the Traffy Fondue app.
Thailand, and particularly its capital city, Bangkok, have consistently ranked high in global assessments of poor air quality throughout 2023.
