24-5-024 (BANGKOK) Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM) has reassured passengers of their safety following an incident on Tuesday where water was seen gushing from the ceiling of a Blue Line train. The operator clarified on Thursday that the water intrusion was due to an air-conditioning malfunction, not rain.
BEM issued an apology to the affected passengers and confirmed that the problem has been addressed. The incident occurred while the train was traveling between Bang Sue and Tao Poon stations, causing passengers to take cover as water entered the carriage.
Following an investigation, BEM determined that a malfunction in the air conditioning drainage system had caused water to backflow into the train. The company dismissed rumours that rainwater had leaked into the train.
To prevent similar incidents, BEM has conducted thorough inspections of the air conditioning systems on all trains and increased the frequency of maintenance checks.

Addressing concerns about potential electric shocks, BEM assured passengers that all trains are equipped with short-circuit protection systems. This includes grounding systems for poles and handrails within the carriages to prevent electrical leakage.
“We prioritise the safety and comfort of our passengers and have taken immediate steps to rectify the issue and enhance our maintenance protocols,” BEM stated. The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring the reliability and safety of Bangkok’s metro services.
