9-1-2025 (BANGKOK) A devastating fire ripped through a two-storey wooden residential complex in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district early Wednesday morning, leaving 33 residents homeless and destroying 22 rooms in its wake.
The blaze, which erupted at approximately 2:45 AM at the Rom Klao New Development Community near the Khlong Toei Housing Estate, sent thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the pre-dawn sky as flames engulfed the timber structure.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident, with five fire engines from the Khlong Toei Fire and Rescue Station racing to the scene. The operation, supported by volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, successfully contained the inferno within 20 minutes, preventing its spread to neighbouring buildings.
Detective Inspector Santichai Chanthasetthi of Tha Ruea Police Station, who led the initial police response, confirmed that whilst the material damage was extensive, there were fortunately no casualties or injuries reported in the incident.
Local authorities have moved quickly to provide emergency assistance, with the Khlong Toei District Office establishing temporary accommodation for the affected residents. The disaster has particularly impacted the Khlong Toei Youth Centre, where the residential complex was located.
“Our immediate priority is ensuring the welfare of those displaced by this unfortunate incident,” a district office spokesperson told reporters. “We are working to provide both immediate shelter and essential supplies to all affected families.”
