22-6-2023 (BANGKOK) In a recent analysis of booking data, online travel platform Agoda has revealed that Thailand has secured the position of the second most popular destination country, with Bangkok leading as the preferred city for travelers. The findings, based on data collected from January to May this year, highlight Thailand’s strong appeal among global tourists.
Acting government spokesman, Anucha Burapachaisri, shared that Thailand’s popularity placed it only behind Japan during the five-month period. He attributed Thailand’s faster tourism recovery compared to other countries to the early reopening of its borders, which has attracted a surge of visitors.
Agoda’s analysis also unveiled that Thailand ranked fourth in terms of domestic trips, following the United States, Japan, and Malaysia. This highlights the country’s allure for both international and local travelers.
In a collaborative effort to promote Thailand’s tourism potential, Asia’s travel booking platform, Klook, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) have jointly launched the “Let Your Journey be THAI” campaign. The campaign aims to showcase the country’s soft power and further boost its attractiveness as a travel destination.
Klook reported a remarkable year-on-year increase of 1,200% in the number of foreign tourists booking activities in Thailand through their platform during the first five months of 2023. Among the visitors, those from Hong Kong constituted the largest group, followed by travelers from Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia. Popular activities that drew their interest included day trips, sightseeing, and spa experiences.
