6-1-2025 (BALI) Police in Bali have made significant progress in their investigation of a sexual assault case involving a Chinese tourist, identified as JT, who was allegedly raped by a motorcycle taxi driver in Badung during New Year’s celebrations.
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 1, 2025, on Batu Kandik Road, Pecatu, after the victim attended a New Year’s Eve fireworks display at Nyang Nyang Beach. The assailant also stole the victim’s diamond bracelet, valued at $5,000.
Investigators have gathered crucial evidence, including CCTV footage showing the suspect transporting the victim from the taxi stand to Batu Kandik Road. Police have cordoned off three locations connected to the crime: the initial meeting point, the assault location, and the residence where the victim sought help.
The victim’s lawyer, Joseph Nahak, confirmed that whilst the number plate was difficult to discern in the dark conditions, the footage provides vital clues about the perpetrator’s movements. “The police are actively investigating both the motorcycle and the suspect,” Nahak stated.
According to the victim’s statement, the perpetrator is of medium build, approximately 168cm tall, with a tanned complexion. He was wearing a green jacket and helmet at the time of the assault. Though the victim could not clearly see the assailant’s face due to the helmet and darkness, she recalls his voice and distinctive nose features.
The lawyer detailed how the perpetrator initially attempted to communicate his intentions through a translation app on his mobile phone. When the victim refused and offered a higher fare to be taken home, the suspect allegedly proceeded to strangle and sexually assault her.
“My client’s resistance was limited by fear for her life,” Nahak explained. Following the assault, the perpetrator searched the victim’s bag for money and, finding none, forcibly took her diamond bracelet.
The victim remains in Bali, determined to see justice served. “She will not leave until the perpetrator is apprehended and faces the full force of the law,” her lawyer affirmed.
