13-3-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Hong Kong actor Ron Ng found himself in an unexpected situation during a recent promotional event for his movie “Deliverance” in Malaysia. The incident unfolded when a woman, identified as Ning on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, unintentionally snubbed Ng’s handshake gesture, leaving him awkwardly hanging.
Videos circulating on Xiaohongshu captured the cringe-worthy moment as Ng, 44, graciously extended his hand for a handshake while posing for photos with fans. However, the woman, caught up in the rush of the moment, hurried off without acknowledging Ng’s gesture.
Expressing remorse later on Xiaohongshu, Ning apologised to Ng, admitting that she “didn’t mean to do it.” She recounted attending the premiere of “Deliverance” at Mega Cineplex on Monday but was flustered during the photo session and didn’t expect Ng to offer his hand for a handshake.
Ning’s nervousness led her to leave hastily after the photo was taken, unaware of Ng’s attempt to greet her. She confessed to feeling regretful upon realising what had happened, lamenting her missed opportunity to acknowledge Ng’s gesture.
Responding to criticisms, Ning explained that she didn’t turn around to shake Ng’s hand as previous groups hadn’t done so, and event staff had instructed against physical contact. However, she acknowledged her oversight and expressed a desire for another chance to properly greet Ng.
While some netizens debated Ning’s actions, others empathised with her nervousness in the moment. Despite the awkward encounter, Ng displayed good humour by playfully maintaining his extended hand as he watched Ning walk away.
