21-8-2023 (JAKARTA) The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, in collaboration with the ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE), organized the ASEAN Green Transport Rally (GTR) in a show of support for Indonesia’s chairmanship in 2023 and its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.
On Sunday, the Ministry’s Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation, Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi, announced that the rally’s theme is “Towards Net Zero Emissions.”
The rally will feature vehicles that run on environmentally friendly fuels and will traverse the route from Jakarta to Bali from August 20 to August 24, 2023.
Priaadi explained that the theme of the ASEAN GTR 2023 underscores the collective determination of ASEAN member nations to address transportation sector challenges and work towards emission reduction targets.
Indonesia, among ASEAN countries, has the highest energy consumption, a figure that is expected to rise significantly in tandem with its economic and population growth.
Simultaneously, Indonesia holds a strategic role in the development of renewable energy, contributing to both economic progress and climate change mitigation. The nation is also working towards energy resilience, independence, universalization, and affordability.
Priaadi noted, “Efforts to transition the transportation sector to green vehicles will support Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission (NZE) target, set for 2060 or possibly even sooner.”
Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director of ACE, who was present at the rally release, emphasized that the ASEAN GTR 2023 aims to raise awareness about the importance of choosing sustainable mobility for ASEAN’s continued growth and development.
The rally is expected to foster energy efficiency and promote vehicle options that utilize various energy sources and technologies.
“By integrating the ASEAN Green Transport Rally into the ASEAN Energy Business Forum, ACE is actively prioritizing sustainable transportation in the region and highlighting innovative solutions for alternative energy sources,” Utama said.
He further stressed that innovative solutions are vital to ensuring energy security, a stable energy supply, and more affordable energy prices in the transportation sector.
