28-11-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A 34-year-old individual has been apprehended for making threats against Malaysia’s Prime Minister through social media channels. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect was taken into custody on Nov 28. The allegations against him involve the uploading of a TikTok video, where he purportedly offered a reward of RM5 million (S$1.4 million) for the assassination of the Prime Minister and his Cabinet.
The arrest took place at Jalan Padang Tembak, Kota Baru, and the suspect is currently in remand until Dec 1. The investigation is being conducted under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Simultaneously, another individual, aged 37, has been detained for derogatory comments aimed at the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong on social media platforms. The suspect, arrested in Kota Baru, Kelantan, is accused of uploading content with the potential to incite anger and insult towards any ruler. He is held in remand until Nov 30, with investigations underway under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Both cases fall under the purview of Bukit Aman CID’s Special Investigation Unit, according to Mr Razarudin. Urging the public to refrain from speculating on ongoing cases, he emphasized the potential harm it could inflict on the investigations. He also cautioned the public to exercise caution on social media, particularly in matters that could disrupt public order and safety.
