28-11-2023 (YANGON) Major General Zaw Min Tun revealed that the MNDAA, TNLA, and AA groups orchestrated a destructive attack with the clear intent of undermining the interests of both Myanmar and China.
The incident unfolded between November 15 and 18 when TNLA and AA allied groups invaded a crucial China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline control station near Zipin village in Kyaukme Township, Shan State (North). Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun detailed the extent of the damage, stating, “They vandalized the communication equipment, security apparatus, and other critical components within the control station. Ministry of Energy officials and security forces worked tirelessly to effect timely repairs.”
Expressing the severity of the situation, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun pointed out that the MNDAA, TNLA, and AA groups are currently disrupting the China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline. This pipeline holds strategic significance for the economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations. “It was done to harm the interests of the two countries,” Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun emphasized, reassuring that the Myanmar government has heightened security measures at natural gas pipeline sites to ensure safety.
The armed groups have not confined their disruptive actions to the oil and gas sector. Major General Zaw Min Tun disclosed that the MNDAA, TNLA, and AA have engaged in subversive activities, including the destruction of bridges, installation of roadblocks, and the obliteration of roads along the Mandalay-Muse Union Road. This critical thoroughfare plays a pivotal role in fostering economic and communicative relations between Myanmar and China.
