4-7-2023 (HANOI) International and Vietnamese designers will gather at the Aquafina Vietnam International Fashion Week (AVIFW) Spring/Summer 2023 to present their latest collections featuring sustainable fabrics. The highly anticipated event will be held from July 13-17, making it the 15th edition of the Vietnam International Fashion Week (VIFW).
Le Thi Quynh Trang, the president of VIFW, expressed her vision at a press conference last Wednesday, stating, “After attending the world’s leading fashion weeks for three years, I made the decision to organize the inaugural VIFW show in Ho Chi Minh City in 2014. The goal was to promote Vietnam’s fashion industry and transform the country into a destination for international designers and fashion brands.”
Themed as ‘Shaping the Future’, the AVIFW Spring/Summer 2023 aims to introduce Vietnam’s natural fabrics and recycled materials to establish the country as a potential market for sustainable fashion in the region and the world. Trang highlighted the importance of sustainability and its role in shaping the future of the fashion industry.
The fashion week will showcase the works of 16 international and Vietnamese designers and fashion brands, including representatives from the London College for Design & Fashion in Hanoi and the Marangoni Fashion Institute in Milan, Italy.
The event will kick off with a captivating collection by Vietnamese designer Le Thanh Hoa, titled “Hoa Tren Song Nuoc” (Flowers and the Waves). Hoa’s collection features a range of ready-to-wear designs crafted from organza, taffeta, raffia fabric, and Ma Chau silk—a renowned silk originating from the 600-year-old silk village in the central province of Quang Nam. Hoa shared his design philosophy, stating, “I prioritize the use of environmentally friendly materials and incorporate recycled fabrics to create unique designs in a color palette of white, silver, and various shades of blue.”
Hoa, a native of Binh Duong province, was born in 1985 and graduated in fashion design from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture. He gained recognition by winning the first prize at Aquafina Pure Fashion in 2009 and has since participated in prestigious fashion shows such as Đẹp Fashion Show and VIFW. Hoa is also celebrated for his designs showcased in pageant contests such as Miss Vietnam and Miss World Vietnam.
The fashion week will also feature new collections from international designers including Fredrick Lee from Singapore, Xuan Thu Nguyen from the Netherlands, Kobi Levi from Israel, and Christos Chronis from Australia.
The grand finale will be presented by Hanoi-based designer Vu Viet Ha, who will showcase designs made from ramie fiber inspired by Vietnamese costumes from the 19th century.
