29-7-2024 (LONDON) Apple’s highly anticipated artificial intelligence features are set to arrive later than initially expected, missing the September launch of the tech giant’s new iPhone and iPad software updates, according to a recent report by Bloomberg News.
The Cupertino-based company plans to introduce its AI suite, dubbed ‘Apple Intelligence’, as part of software updates slated for October, insiders familiar with the matter have revealed. This timeline suggests a delay of several weeks from the scheduled September release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
In a move to refine the technology, Apple is reportedly preparing to grant software developers unprecedented early access to Apple Intelligence. This beta testing phase, expected to commence as early as this week, will be facilitated through iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 beta versions.
The delay underscores the complexities involved in integrating cutting-edge AI capabilities into Apple’s ecosystem. The company has been vocal about its AI aspirations, showcasing a range of new features and software enhancements for iPhones and other devices during its June announcements, aimed at reinvigorating sales.
Apple Intelligence, designed to generate text, images, and other content on command using AI, is set to be compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and Mac models featuring the M1 chip or later versions. Another notable feature in the pipeline is iPhone Mirroring on MacOS Sequoia, allowing users to view and interact with their iPhone screens directly on Mac computers.
This postponement follows a previous delay in June when Apple put three new AI features on hold. The company cited the need to ensure compliance with the European Union’s landmark tech regulations, which mandate interoperability with rival products and services.
Despite repeated attempts to contact Apple for comment outside of regular business hours, the company has yet to respond to inquiries about the reported delay.
