14-5-2024 (LONDON) Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic, supported by tech giants Alphabet’s Google and Amazon.com, announced the European rollout of its generative AI chatbot, Claude, on Tuesday.
Claude is positioned as a significant rival to Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which made headlines by amassing 100 million monthly active users just two months after its release.
Previously available online in select countries, this launch marks the first time Claude will be accessible through the web and on iPhones across the European Union, as well as in non-EU countries like Switzerland and Iceland.
European businesses can now opt for the “Claude Team” subscription plan, priced at €28 (approximately $30.21) per month, excluding value-added tax.
Anthropic was established by former OpenAI executives and siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei.
Earlier this month, Anthropic entered the competitive corporate AI market with a business-oriented version of its chatbot. This strategic move could potentially set it on a collision course with its own investors, Amazon and Google, both of whom are eager to dominate the AI business sector.
“Millions of people worldwide are already using Claude to do things like accelerate scientific processes, enhance customer service, or refine their writing. I look forward to seeing what people and businesses across Europe create with Claude,” stated Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic.
