5-6-2023 (NEW DELHI) Just days after the Balasore train tragedy that garnered global attention, another train derailment has occurred in Odisha, this time in Bargarh district.
According to sources, five wagons of a goods train carrying limestone derailed near the Mendhapali area of the district. The train, owned by a private cement company, was en route from the Dunguri limestone mines to the manufacturing factory when the accident took place. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
The senior officials of the cement company and the police were immediately informed about the incident and have begun an investigation into the matter.
In response to the incident, the Railway department clarified that it bears no responsibility for the mishap as the infrastructure is maintained by the private cement company. The railway confirmed that the narrow gauge siding, including the rolling stock, such as the engine, wagons, and train track, is solely managed by the company. They emphasized that the incident is in no way connected to the Indian Railway system.
