9-6-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Beauty therapist Angie Chong Sum Yee, who went missing after traveling to Chiang Mai, Thailand, has finally reached out to her mother to confirm her safety. Sabah State Sandakan Member of Parliament, Vivian Wong, from the Democratic Action Party (DAP), posted on Facebook this morning, verifying that Angie Chong had contacted her mother, Caiyun, to assure her of her well-being.
“However, until she returns to Malaysia and reunites with her family, Zhu is still unable to rest assured and hopes for her daughter’s safe return,” said Caiyun. Both mother and daughter are from Sandakan, and Angie Chong went missing in Thailand on 1 June. The family has been tirelessly searching for her and sought assistance from Vivian Wong.
Upon learning of the situation, Wong urgently contacted the Political Education Director of DAP Johor, Alan Tee, for assistance. Tee and his team visited Caiyun to understand the situation. “On 5 June, they received a call from the Thai police requesting their presence in Thailand to assist in the investigation,” Wong stated in her Facebook post.
She further explained that upon their arrival in Thailand, the local police provided them with a briefing, enabling Zhu Caiyun to understand Angie Chong’s movements in Thailand, including who she met, where she stayed, and the individuals she was involved with. The last trace of Angie Chong was in Chiang Rai.
“Two days ago, Alan Tee and the team traveled from Johor to Chiang Mai and then flew to Chiang Rai. On-site, apart from official agencies, there were also journalists present. After discussion, they decided to hand over the case to the relevant authorities for investigation,” Wong revealed.
Wong sincerely hopes for Angie Chong’s safe return, and the search team in Thailand is now preparing to return to Malaysia. “I urge the public to be cautious and vigilant when traveling and to always stay connected with their families. Be wary of strangers,” Wong emphasized.
However, as of 1 p.m. today, Caiyun has not made any public announcement on her personal Facebook page confirming her daughter’s contact, despite numerous comments from netizens inquiring whether she has found her daughter.
