3-1-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) The presence of stray dogs in populated areas is not an uncommon sight, but when these strays face potential health risks or pose threats to the public, immediate intervention becomes imperative. Malaysian authorities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have long been engaged in efforts to address this issue, yet instances of cruelty and mishandling persist, casting a dark shadow on these initiatives.
A recent Instagram post by the user @dsrsanctuary shed light on a disturbing incident involving the alleged brutal killing of stray dogs in Johor. The post expressed deep disappointment and frustration, pointing fingers at a pest control company named Rizal Pest Management for reportedly engaging in a gruesome act against these animals. The post claimed that several stray dogs were brutally murdered, and their carcasses callously disposed of in a remote area near the Kulai Bridge.

According to the post, the remains of the dogs were found in a severely mutilated state, with some displaying signs of stomachs being cut open, while others appeared to have been strangled or drowned. The distressing scene, as described by the post, paints a grim picture of inhumane treatment towards these vulnerable animals.
The post also questioned the prolonged existence of such distressing situations, spanning decades without visible change. The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Johor came under scrutiny for its perceived inaction in addressing and resolving this ongoing issue. Despite multiple police reports being filed, the situation allegedly remains unaddressed.
The post claimed that since 2019, the Kulai City Council had enlisted Rizal Pest Control for capturing and handling the disposal of stray dogs. The post included screenshots of Facebook posts illustrating operations aimed at culling the stray dog population, raising concerns about the methods employed and the apparent lack of oversight.
