22-4-2024 (COLOMBO) AirAsia is one of six contenders vying for ownership of Sri Lanka’s national carrier, SriLankan Airlines, as the country seeks to mitigate losses suffered by state-owned enterprises under a $2.9 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
According to a statement from Sri Lanka’s finance ministry, AirAsia Consulting has formally expressed interest in acquiring shares in SriLankan Airlines Limited by submitting a request for qualification from potential investors.
In addition to AirAsia, the statement listed Dharshaan Elite Investment Holding (Pvt) Ltd, FITS Aviation (Private) Limited, Sherisha Technologies Private Limited, Treasure Republic Guardians Limited, and local conglomerate Hayleys PLC as the other participants in the bidding process.
