2-2-2024 (HANOI) Heavy fog and escalating air pollution in Hanoi have disrupted air travel, causing delays and diversions for all flights at the international airport, according to an airport official.
As per Air Visual, an independent air quality index monitor, Hanoi is experiencing alarmingly high levels of hazardous PM2.5 particles, reaching 257 micrograms per cubic metre early on Friday.
An official at Noi Bai International Airport stated, “All incoming flights are being diverted to other cities, including Haiphong or Danang. None can take off either at the moment.”
State media reported that nearly 100 flights to and from the airport have been impacted, according to airport authorities.
Vietnam’s budget airline, Vietjet, confirmed that several of its flights scheduled to arrive in Hanoi had been redirected to land in Haiphong City.
Hanoi’s air quality woes have persistently ranked among the world’s worst, prompting health authorities to advise wearing masks and limiting outdoor activities as precautionary measures.
