28-1-2023 (HANOI) African Swine Fever (ASF) has resurfaced in the Yen Bai province of Vietnam, with over a hundred outbreaks reported in less than 21 days, leading to the culling of nearly 8,000 pigs, totaling over 460 tons in weight. The complex situation has raised concerns about the rapid resurgence of the ASF epidemic, which had previously hit the province between 2019 and 2020. Despite a temporary lull in the past two years, the latter half of 2023 has witnessed a renewed and widespread outbreak across various localities.
According to reports from the Vanguard newspaper in Vietnam, the recent surge in ASF cases has prompted urgent measures, with the province grappling to contain the situation. In less than three weeks, Yen Bai province has reported over 100 cases of ASF, necessitating the culling of thousands of pigs to prevent further spread. The gravity of the situation is underscored by the cumulative weight of the culled pigs, exceeding 460 tons.
Proactive steps taken by local authorities in response to the renewed outbreak. In an effort to control the epidemic, The county has invested 542 million Vietnamese dong to purchase lime powder for disease prevention. Additionally, they are encouraging farmers to acquire more lime powder and chemicals promptly to eradicate the virus at its source.
