8-6-2023 (SAN JOSE) Adobe Inc announced on Thursday that it will provide Firefly, its artificial intelligence (AI) tool for image generation, to its enterprise customers. As part of the offering, Adobe will provide financial indemnification for any copyright challenges related to content produced with the tool.
The decision to include compensation is a response to the increasing number of lawsuits surrounding the use of image data in AI services. Companies like Stability AI and Midjourney have faced legal action due to their AI tools’ ability to generate imagery based on minimal textual input.
Earlier this year, Adobe released a trial version of Firefly, emphasizing that the service was developed using legally safe image data.
San Jose-based Adobe has now announced that it will integrate Firefly into Adobe Express, a tool designed to assist business users without design expertise in creating images and documents.
To instill confidence in its customers, Adobe has pledged indemnification for images generated using Firefly. However, the company has not provided specific details regarding the financial and legal aspects of the program.
Ashley Still, Senior Vice President of Digital Media at Adobe, stated, “We financially stand behind all of the content that is produced by Firefly for use either internally or externally by our customers,” in an interview with Reuters.
Furthermore, Adobe will allow businesses to customize the service by training it to incorporate their own logos and products. This customization ensures that “when employees are creating content, it is literally within their brand guidelines,” explained Still.
In addition to the Firefly announcement, Adobe also introduced AI-based features to its digital marketing tools on Thursday.
Suman Basetty, Senior Director of AI Products for Adobe Experience Cloud, highlighted that users will be able to generate reports from system data by asking questions in natural language. For example, a user can inquire about comparing online and offline sales in a specific region over a certain period. This advancement aims to “democratize the data across the enterprise,” according to Basetty.
