20-6-2023 (BANGKOK) The Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) of Thailand has announced that the Yellow Line, the country’s new monorail mass rapid transit line, has completed its full trial run in the capital city. This new transportation option provides a fresh alternative for residents who have long suffered from the city’s congested roads.
The Yellow Line, which links the north and south parts of eastern Bangkok, spans across 23 stations and is set to commence commercial operations next month. The MRTA has assured the public that the monorail will provide a comfortable ride.
The Lat Phrao Station on the Yellow Line was launched on Monday, with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha personally experiencing the service. He expressed his optimism that the monorail will serve as an alternative means of transportation along the route, and praised the comfort of the ride.
The government plans to develop an electric train network that resembles a spider web and introduce a unified ticket system for travel across all routes, according to Prayut. The Pink Line, another route under construction, is part of the country’s pioneering straddle-beam monorail project and is expected to undergo a partial trial run later this year.
The cost-effective driverless trains used in both the Yellow and Pink lines are manufactured in China by a Chinese company, with lower construction costs compared to conventional subway systems. This development is expected to provide a boost to the city’s infrastructure and ease the burden on its congested roads.
