18-6-2023 (BANGKOK) On the evening of June 17, 2023, Ms. Kanokkitti Karutakun, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand, Koh Samui Office, and Mr. Ratchaphon Phoonsawat, President of Samui Tourism Promotion Association, along with tourism business operators on Koh Samui, organized a vibrant parade featuring fantasy costumes to promote tourism, especially to LGBTQ+ communities. The event aimed to showcase that Koh Samui warmly welcomes tourists of all genders, sexual orientations, and diverse identities, emphasizing the importance of freedom of expression and ensuring a safe environment.
Mr. Ratchaphon Phoonsawat, President of Samui Tourism Promotion Association, revealed that the Samui Wonder Pride 2023 event is the second of its kind, designed to promote tourism to LGBTQ+ communities and showcase Koh Samui’s open-mindedness and inclusivity towards tourists of all genders and sexual orientations. The event attracted a significant number of tourism business operators and tourists who joined the parade, dressed in various colorful costumes, creating a lively atmosphere along the beautiful beach road of Chaweng. Mr. Ratchaphon Phoonsawat added that each year, the number of LGBTQ+ tourists visiting Koh Samui has been increasing, reflecting the attractiveness of the island as a tourist destination known for its natural beauty and welcoming environment.
