16-6-2023 (BERLIN) Tragedy struck near the picturesque Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria as a 21-year-old American woman lost her life after being assaulted and pushed down a slope by an American man. Local police in Bavaria confirmed the incident, stating that the woman succumbed to her serious injuries overnight.
According to reports, the victim had embarked on a hiking trip on Wednesday accompanied by her friend, a 22-year-old American woman. Their route took them near the historic “Marienbrücke,” a renowned bridge offering splendid views of Neuschwanstein Castle. It was there that the two women encountered a 30-year-old American man who convinced them to follow him down a concealed trail leading to a viewpoint.
Authorities have revealed that the man physically attacked the 21-year-old woman after luring them down the trail. When the 22-year-old friend intervened to assist, the assailant reportedly choked her and callously pushed her down a steep slope. Police suspect that the attacker then attempted to commit a sexual offense against the 21-year-old victim before forcefully pushing her down the slope, causing her to fall approximately 50 meters away from her friend.
The Füssen mountain rescue service swiftly responded to the distress call on Wednesday afternoon, rescuing both women. The 21-year-old victim was airlifted to a hospital, but tragically, she later succumbed to her injuries. The friend, who was able to communicate when found by rescuers, was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
The US Embassy in Germany confirmed being aware of the incident involving multiple individuals but refrained from disclosing their nationalities, citing privacy considerations. The embassy’s spokesperson stated that the US Consulate in Munich is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with local authorities.
Meanwhile, the perpetrator fled the scene but has since been apprehended by the police. He is currently in custody and facing investigation for charges including murder, attempted murder, and attempted sexual offense.
