14-6-2023 (SINGAPORE) A Malaysian driver who was captured on video attempting to bypass the queue on the Causeway has been prohibited from entering Singapore.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) spokesman stated on Tuesday that they are aware of a video circulating on social media, depicting a Malaysia-registered vehicle trying to cut the queue on the Causeway by utilizing the designated bus and lorry lane.
The video, which was shared on Facebook on Sunday, exhibits a black Toyota Alphard driving in the rightmost lane designated for buses and lorries, while the two adjacent car lanes are congested.
In the footage, a service AC7 cross-border bus can be seen behind the car, which eventually comes to a stop.
Two auxiliary police officers appear to have halted the vehicle, but it drives off after one of the officers moves towards the left. The ICA spokesman confirmed that the Malaysian driver was traveling from Singapore to Malaysia via the Woodlands Checkpoint.
According to him, the two officers in the video had intercepted the vehicle and instructed the driver to make a U-turn back towards Singapore.
“The driver failed to comply with the officers’ instructions and recklessly continued driving forward,” he added.
The ICA has identified the driver and both the driver and the vehicle have been banned from entering Singapore.
A police report was filed after the incident, and investigations are currently underway.
“The ICA would like to emphasize that we do not tolerate the behavior of errant motorists who intentionally disregard traffic rules. Such actions pose a safety hazard to officers and other checkpoint users, putting them at risk,” the spokesman stated. He further noted that enforcement action will be taken against motorists caught attempting to cut queues.
