8-6-2023 (ANNECY) A horrifying knife attack took place in a park in Annecy, a town located in the French Alps, leaving four children and an adult injured, according to police reports on Thursday. Tragically, three of the children are said to be in life-threatening condition. Initial reports from the police had mentioned eight injured children, but the revised number is now four.

The children involved in the incident were approximately three years old, as confirmed by the police. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin took to Twitter to announce that the attacker had been apprehended. An interior ministry spokesperson further revealed that four children and two adults had sustained injuries during the attack.

Virginie Duby-Muller, a member of parliament representing the Haute Savoie region, shared on BFM TV that the assailant was a Syrian individual who held refugee status. The police were unable to provide additional details about the attacker’s identity, apart from confirming that it was a man. BFM TV aired footage showing several police officers subduing an individual within the park.
French National Assembly Speaker Yael Braun-Pivet expressed her dismay on Twitter, stating, “Nothing is more abominable than attacking children.” As a mark of respect for the victims, a minute of silence was observed in the French parliament.
