8-6-2023 (BANGKOK) Thai police have apprehended a Kazakh man believed to be responsible for a shooting incident that left a Russian man injured in Thalang district. The suspect, identified as Artur Legay, was detained by immigration police at Phuket International Airport on Thursday morning.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Kazakh national had checked into a hotel in tambon Choeng Thale before the incident occurred. Authorities are currently conducting further inquiries to gather more information about the case.
The incident took place at approximately 11:45 am on Wednesday when the Phuket 191 emergency response center received a report of a foreign man being seriously injured in a gun attack. The incident unfolded in front of a café located in the business area of Laguna Phuket, approximately one kilometer away from Choeng Thale police station. Local police and rescuers immediately rushed to the scene.

Eyewitness accounts and security camera footage from the area revealed that a car pulled up in front of the café, and a man wearing a face cover approached the vehicle on a Honda PCX motorcycle. The assailant fired four shots at the man inside the car through the windshield before fleeing the scene on his motorcycle.
The victim, identified as Dmitry Aleynikov, a 44-year-old Russian national, sustained gunshot wounds to his chest, right armpit, and left arm. Rescue teams swiftly extracted the unconscious and bleeding man from the vehicle and transported him to Thalang Hospital for medical treatment.

Following a thorough police investigation, authorities were able to locate and arrest the suspected gunman.
The motive behind the attack and any potential connection between the suspect and the victim are yet to be determined. Police will continue their efforts to gather evidence and establish a clearer picture of the incident.
