4-6-2023 (YUNNAN) Being a kindergarten teacher requires constant attention to the well-being of children at school. A heartbreaking incident recently unfolded in Kunming, Yunnan, China, when a father dropped off his healthy 3-year-old daughter at the kindergarten in the morning, only to receive a devastating phone call from the school over 5 hours later, informing him of his daughter’s untimely death. The grieving father, upon reviewing the surveillance footage, discovered that the teacher was busy scrolling through her mobile phone while his daughter was experiencing seizures.
According to Chinese media reports, on the morning of May 30th around 8 a.m., the father took his lively and healthy daughter to the kindergarten. Little did he know that around 1:15 p.m., he would receive a call from the school, informing him of his daughter’s passing. The father was deeply shocked.
In tears, the father revealed that upon reviewing the kindergarten’s surveillance footage, he witnessed his daughter having a seizure around 11:20 a.m. Subsequently, at approximately 12:50 p.m., his daughter experienced another, more severe seizure. Other children nearby quickly alerted the teacher, but it was too late. The father criticized the teacher for being engrossed in her mobile phone instead of attending to his daughter during the two instances of seizures within a span of three hours. In response to the incident, officials from the Kunming Municipal Education and Sports Bureau in the Guandu District expressed that the family was understandably upset. The relevant authorities are currently mediating between the kindergarten and the family. Local police have also initiated an investigation, although the specific cause of the toddler’s tragic death has yet to be determined.
