3-6-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A shocking incident unfolded in Ampang Jaya as a 19-year-old girl was detained for orchestrating her own abduction in an attempt to extort money from her father. The Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak revealed that the teenager had deliberately concealed herself from her family during a visit to a shopping mall on Thursday afternoon (June 1).
After informing her family that she was heading to the restroom, she failed to return. Hours later, her mother received a distressing message from the girl’s phone, demanding RM100,000 in exchange for her safe release. Concerned and alarmed, the family immediately sought assistance from the authorities.
Acting swiftly, a team from Ampang Jaya district’s Criminal Investigation Department conducted a raid on a residence in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam. At approximately 10 pm on the same day, they apprehended the teenager. In the process, the suspect’s phone was seized for further investigation.
During questioning, the young girl confessed to fabricating her abduction and admitted to sending the extortion message to her mother. It was revealed that her motivation behind this elaborate scheme stemmed from a sense of discontentment and a desire for greater personal freedom.
The investigation also confirmed that she tested negative for drug use. However, she remains in custody until Sunday (June 4), as authorities continue their inquiries into the incident. The case has been classified under Section 348/182, which pertains to providing false information to a public official.
ACP Mohamad Farouk expressed his stern stance on such false claims and cautioned that severe action would be taken against individuals who fabricate criminal incidents or lodge false reports. This incident serves as a reminder of the legal consequences associated with misleading the authorities and wasting valuable police resources.
