31-5-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a concerning incident in Malaysia, an 11-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital after displaying severe side effects believed to be caused by consuming chocolate biscuits made by her father, suspected to be laced with cannabis.
According to Perak police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, investigations revealed that the victim had consumed biscuits suspected to be mixed with cannabis, resulting in symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, and nausea.
The girl was initially taken to Gerik Hospital and later referred to Taiping Hospital for further examination and treatment. Mr. Mohd Yusri provided an update on Tuesday (May 30), stating that the victim’s condition is currently stable. However, due to the need to prioritize her treatment, a urine test to determine if she tested positive for cannabis has not yet been conducted.
The incident was reported to the police by a medical assistant at the Lawin Health Clinic in Gerik, Hulu Perak district, at 10:26 PM on Monday. The victim’s father, a 38-year-old rubber tapper, had brought her to the hospital.
Upon conducting a urine test on the suspect, it was discovered that he tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a psychoactive component found in cannabis. As a result, the father has been arrested and remanded until June 3 for further investigations under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 15 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Mr. Mohd Yusri urged the public to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
