30th May 2023 The publisher of the popular Japanese magazine “Weekly Playboy” (also known as “Shupure” or WPB), has embraced the AI revolution by introducing an AI model named Satsuki Ai. This digital creation has made her debut in an electronic photo album, instantly amassing over 5,000 fans overnight.
In the latest issue of “Weekly Playboy” on May 29th, it was revealed that Satsuki Ai’s name was chosen to reflect the month of her creation, with “Ai” serving as a homophone for AI. According to her backstory, she was born on May 29th, 2006, and is depicted as growing up in Tokyo with a passion for gaming.
Satsuki Ai made her presence known on Twitter by posting her first tweet on May 29th, inviting followers to check out her electronic photo album. She expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I would be very happy if you would take a look.” In a subsequent tweet, she introduced herself, stating, “Nice to meet you. I’m Satsuki Ai. I will do my best to make you feel satisfied. I hope to have a chat with everyone someday. Please take care of me.”
It is worth noting that Satsuki Ai’s Twitter account was established in May, and her initial post garnered an impressive 5,561 followers overnight. The electronic photo album, titled “Shinsei,” is available for 499 Japanese yen (approximately 109 Taiwanese dollars). While some Japanese internet users speculate that the emergence of AI models may lead to the unemployment of current “internet beauties” and photo models, others view AI models as potential idols who can avoid scandals. However, critics argue that AI models still lack refinement in certain aspects, such as finger movements and facial expressions, and are unable to engage in meet-and-greet events or handshakes with fans.
“Weekly Playboy” magazine, commonly known as “Shupure” or WPB, has been published by Shueisha since 1966. Despite covering a diverse range of topics including columns, celebrity interviews, and manga, the magazine is primarily targeted at male readers and is considered an adult publication. It is important to clarify that the Japanese edition of “Weekly Playboy” is distinct from the American Playboy magazine and was published separately as “Monthly Playboy” by Shueisha until its discontinuation in January 2009.
