28-5-2023 (BANGKOK) In the early hours of Sunday, a tour boat erupted in flames at a boat pier in Muang district. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident.
The vessel, which was moored at the pier, was constructed from teak wood and had been modified from a cargo barge. The blaze was reported to the police at approximately 1 am, near Wat Phanan Choeng in tambon Khlong Suan Phlu.
Upon receiving the report, fire trucks and a rescue unit swiftly arrived at the scene. However, the boat was already engulfed in flames, and the rope used to secure it to the pier had been destroyed. As a result, the boat drifted towards the middle of the Chao Phraya river.
Efforts were made to tow the burning boat to the river bank, where the fire was eventually extinguished. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the blaze, while the extent of the damage is currently being assessed.
Fortunately, since the boat was not in use and only moored at the pier, no individuals were harmed during the incident.
