28-5-2023 (MANILA) The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has taken action by activating emergency preparedness and response protocols in anticipation of Typhoon Betty (international name: Mawar).
These protocols will be implemented by various government agencies and local government units (LGUs) ahead of the typhoon’s arrival.
Ariel Nepomuceno, Civil Defense Administrator and NDRRMC Executive Director, stated on Sunday that the protocols have been identified and activated in regions expected to be affected by Typhoon Betty.
“Our coordination with different agencies for the preparations of Super Typhoon Betty is ongoing,” Nepomuceno said. “We are ensuring that all necessary measures are in place, from the national level down to the local level.”
In addition, teams from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine Coast Guard are on standby for search, rescue, and retrieval operations. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has reported having P2.2 billion available to provide assistance to those who will be affected by the typhoon.
The Office of Civil Defense has also prepositioned non-food items worth P108.2 million for immediate distribution to communities that will be impacted by the typhoon.
