26-5-2023 (SEOUL) An incident occurred on Friday (May 26) as an Asiana Airlines plane approached the city of Daegu in South Korea when one of its doors unexpectedly opened, according to a spokesperson from the company.
The aircraft, carrying 194 passengers, successfully landed at Daegu airport at approximately 12:40 p.m. (11:40 a.m. Singapore time) after departing from the island of Jeju an hour earlier, as indicated by the airport’s flight schedule.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. However, a few passengers experienced breathing difficulties due to shock and were taken to a hospital for medical evaluation, as confirmed by the company spokesperson.
In response to the situation, nine individuals were transferred to a nearby hospital under the supervision of a Daegu fire department official.
The Asiana Airlines spokesperson stated that authorities are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the door opening.
According to Yonhap news agency, a male passenger in his 30s was detained by the police on suspicion of attempting to forcibly open the door while the plane was preparing for landing. The motive behind the passenger’s actions remains unclear at this time.
