2-12-2025 (SINGAPORE) A total of 822 Singaporeans have successfully returned home from Hat Yai, Southern Thailand, following severe flooding, according to an update from Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on December 1.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) confirmed the safe return of citizens who had either e-registered or directly contacted the ministry for assistance during the deadly natural disaster in the kingdom. The successful evacuation marks the end of a concerted consular effort to retrieve Singaporeans stranded by the floods.
In a public statement, Minister Balakrishnan praised the relentless dedication of the MFA’s consular response teams working on the ground. He extended gratitude to the Thai government, the Royal Thai Armed Forces, and various non-governmental organizations for their swift support during the rescue operations. Crucially, the Minister also thanked the Malaysian government for their assistance in receiving the evacuated citizens and supporting the broader relief effort.
The floods, which affected over 2.7 million people in Thailand and tragically killed at least 176 individuals in the south, have now entered the recovery phase. Attention now shifts to the substantial rebuilding efforts required for the families and communities affected by the disaster.
