27-11-2025 (JAKARTA) Bali’s Provincial Health Agency has concluded that the death of a 25-year-old Chinese tourist in Badung earlier this year was not caused by food poisoning, closing months of speculation over the incident. The agency’s Head of Disease Prevention and Control, I Gusti Ayu Raka Susanti, said the findings were completed and shared with the Chinese Consulate General in September, as first reported by detikBali.
Investigators reviewed hygiene and food preparation practices at the Canggu hostel where the victim, Deqing zhuoga, was found dead. Officials said the facility met cleanliness standards and noted that six other foreign guests treated for similar symptoms had eaten different meals at different times—conditions that did not satisfy the criteria for a food poisoning cluster.

Local authorities have since expanded outreach to businesses on health and safety requirements, aiming to prevent misunderstandings and strengthen compliance in tourist-heavy districts.
Tourism officials expressed regret over the incident but said the case has not affected visitor arrivals, including from China.
