18-3-2025 (JAKARTA) Three police officers lost their lives during a raid on an illegal cockfighting ring in Indonesia’s Lampung Province. The incident, which unfolded in Karang Manik Village, Way Kanan Regency, has sent shockwaves through the local law enforcement community.
The fallen officers included Police Inspector Lusiyanto, who served as the Negara Batin Police Chief, alongside his colleagues First Brigadier Petrus and Second Brigadier Ghalib. The tragic confrontation occurred at approximately 16:50 local time on Monday.
Head of Public Relations at Lampung Police Headquarters, Senior Commissioner Yuni Iswandari, disclosed that a contingent of 17 officers had been deployed to tackle the illegal gambling operation. Upon arrival at the scene, the police team encountered immediate armed resistance from unidentified assailants, resulting in the fatal shooting of the three officers.
The incident, which involved military personnel, has escalated concerns about inter-service coordination and security protocols.
Deputy Commander of DVI Biddokkes Lampung Police, Senior Commissioner Legowo Hamijaya, disclosed that comprehensive post-mortem examinations were conducted over an intensive 10-hour period. The examinations, performed by the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team and forensic experts at Bhayangkara Police Hospital, began at 02:00 and concluded at 12:00 on Tuesday.
The forensic findings revealed that each officer sustained a single fatal gunshot wound. Police Inspector Lusiyanto (posthumously promoted) was struck in the right chest, First Brigadier Petrus (posthumously promoted) received a wound to his left eye, and Second Brigadier Ghalib (posthumously promoted) was hit in the left lip region.
The incident occurred during a planned operation against illegal gambling activities in Karang Manik Village, Way Kanan Regency.
