4-3-2025 – President Donald Trump has suspended American military assistance to Ukraine, dramatically intensifying pressure on Kyiv to enter peace talks with Moscow. The decision, confirmed by a White House source to AFP on Monday, 3rd March, marks a significant turning point in US-Ukraine relations.
The pause follows a notably tense encounter between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the latter’s recent White House visit, where disagreements about the path forward were plainly visible.
“We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well,” remarked a White House official speaking anonymously, emphasising Trump’s focus on achieving peace. The administration indicated it was reviewing existing aid arrangements to ensure alignment with this objective.
Earlier on Monday, when questioned about potential aid suspension, President Trump had neither confirmed nor dismissed such plans. However, in a stark warning that has raised diplomatic eyebrows, he suggested Zelensky’s political future could be precarious without progress toward a ceasefire, stating the Ukrainian leader “won’t be around very long” absent such an agreement.
