13-2-2025 (BEIJING) Multiple residents in the southeastern Chinese city of Zhangzhou reported witnessing mysterious aerial phenomena on the evening of 10 February, triggering widespread discussion about their possible origin.
According to eyewitness accounts reported by Sing Tao Daily, the unusual incident occurred around 8 PM when several bright objects appeared in the night sky. Witnesses described seeing luminous points of light that initially formed a straight line formation before splitting apart in an unexplained manner.
“At first, we thought they might be drones,” said one local resident who observed the phenomenon. “But then the lights began to divide repeatedly until there were more than a dozen of them. The formation changed from a linear pattern to a circular one before our eyes.”
Observers noted the remarkable speed of the objects, with the entire incident lasting only about fifteen seconds before the lights vanished completely.
When approached for comment, Zhangzhou municipal authorities appeared to distance themselves from the incident, stating they had “no knowledge or understanding of the matter.”
The incident has sparked considerable debate on Chinese social media platforms, with some speculating the lights could be related to military aircraft training exercises by the People’s Liberation Army. Others have embraced more extraordinary explanations, suggesting possible extraterrestrial origins.
The official response has drawn criticism from some netizens, who point to a pattern of similar incidents across China where authorities typically provide vague responses or promise investigations that rarely yield public conclusions.
“It’s always the same story,” wrote one social media user. “Either they claim ignorance or announce an investigation, but we never get any real answers.”
