6-2-2025 (TAIPEI) Two workers lost their lives and nineteen others were injured in a devastating gas explosion at a polyester cotton manufacturing facility in Taiwan’s Hsinchu County early Thursday morning, company officials have confirmed.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:53 AM local time at Far Eastern New Energy’s Xinpu Township plant, when a gas leak from insulation pipes triggered an explosion at the facility’s polyester production unit. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, with firefighters successfully extinguishing the blaze by 3:30 AM.
Among the 21 casualties, five individuals sustained serious injuries whilst fourteen others suffered minor injuries. All victims were immediately transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, according to a company statement.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of our deceased colleagues,” a Far Eastern New Energy spokesperson said. “The company will provide full compensation packages to the bereaved families and ensure comprehensive care for all injured employees.”
The polymerisation unit where the explosion occurred typically produces 160 tonnes of material daily. Company officials maintain that the incident’s impact on overall production operations remains minimal. The firm also confirmed that their facility is fully insured against such casualties, suggesting limited financial repercussions.
Local authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the precise cause of the explosion. The company has pledged full cooperation with investigators and promised transparency in sharing findings with the public.
