4-2-2025 (SINGAPORE) A brazen theft attempt at a residential block in Singapore’s Choa Chu Kang district has sparked concern among residents after CCTV footage captured a man pilfering women’s undergarments from a corridor clothing rack, only to hastily return them upon spotting surveillance cameras.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:34 AM on 31 January, was recorded on security cameras installed by resident Elyvi Lim, who had grown suspicious after noticing her lingerie repeatedly vanishing and mysteriously reappearing outside her flat.
Surveillance footage shows a bespectacled man, dressed in grey attire and dark trousers, methodically examining clothing items hanging in the common corridor. After carefully selecting a piece of lingerie, the perpetrator can be seen concealing it within his own clothing before attempting to flee the scene.
However, the would-be thief’s plans were thwarted when he noticed the recently installed CCTV camera. Visibly startled, the man promptly returned to the clothing rack and restored the purloined item, all whilst casting furtive glances at the recording device.
“This behaviour had been ongoing for some time before I decided to take action,” Ms Lim told reporters. She indicated that similar incidents had been reported in the vicinity of the 600 block range spanning the Choa Chu Kang and Yew Tee residential districts.
The Singapore Police Force has confirmed their involvement in the matter, revealing that a 27-year-old male suspect is currently assisting with their enquiries. A spokesman stated that investigations are proceeding under the classification of dishonest misappropriation of property.
